YOUTH EMPLOYEE APPLICATION PROCESS & FORM

Thank you for your interest in joining our pool of teens (14-18 years of age, only) seeking employment on South Whidbey Island. Please note that this program is for teens residing in or attending schools in the South Whidbey School district, only.

We place teens with individuals, such as home owners, as well as licensed businesses. The rate we pay teens for short-term jobs (for example, doing yard work for a home owner) is $9.00/hour (this is higher than the $8.55/hour minimum wage). The way it works is that the employer pays us for your time and we in turn pay you by check in a timely manner (twice a month). If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must complete and sign the Parental Permission Form.

The hourly rate or salary paid by licensed businesses will depend upon the employer and the job in question, though by law it must be at least minimum wage (For more information about the EMPLOYER application process and fees, please click HERE).

All teens participating in the program are required to complete an application form (see link, below) and attend an orientation session. The orientation covers such topics as job applications, attendance, work ethics, the importance of keeping a calendar, appearance, interviewing skills, knowing the job, how to behave on the job, employee rights, etc.

*Note to Parents and Legal Guardians: To comply with State and Federal law, and for the protection of your children, we require that all persons supervising teens in our employment program must undergo a background check. Thus, we submit information provided by prospective employers to the Washington State Highway Patrol. Also note: If your child is under the age of 18, you must complete and sign the Parental Permission Form.
